08.24.09 - Funding for Work in Limerick Forest:
The United Counties of Leeds & Grenville have received infrastructure funding through the National Trails Coalition to replace the Limerick Forest Chalet and to improve and expand the trails in Limerick. The Counties must provide 50 per cent of the funding, amounting to $126,000, with the work to be completed by March 31, 2010. Work on the 180 km trail network will include new trail construction, emergency access road and trail upgrades, bridge and water crossings, signage, trail surveying and tracking, and trail rehabilitation.
Completion of the new "Limerick Forest Trailhead & Education Centre" will come just as Council celebrates the 70th anniversary of Limerick Forest. Councilors acknowledged the hard work of several staff members in the application process and noted the new centre will open up many new exploration opportunities for school groups and the general public.
This application was submitted in partnership with the Ontario Federation of Trail Riders. Their assistance with this application and ongoing support of the Limerick program is greatly appreciated!
